You remember Pan’s Labyrinth, the movie about a little girl who escapes the savagery of the Spanish Civil War by retreating into a fantasy world? Well apparently so does Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Dawn Of The Dead), except he remembers it with a lot more tits than it originally had. Snyder’s new film is best described by Snyder himself as “…Alice In Wonderland with machine guns”. I don’t know if that’s high concept film making or if it’s just an idea he came up with when he was 13. After watching this trailer however, it seems more like the later. There’s pretty much every single thing a 13 year old is obsessed with in this movie: Samurais, dragons, dog fights, tits, zombies, tits, robots, machine guns, corsets and oh yeah tits. I’m not going to lie, the part of me that just likes explosions and such is kinda stoked on this movie. Zack Snyder does make all of those ridiculous and disparate elements look really fucking cool in this ADD riddled trailer. However, the part of my brain that likes themes and philosophy and uses the word “cinema”, will be hanging out at the coffee shop across the street from the movie theatre when this comes out. That part of my brain will be listening to an up and coming spoken word artist do a reading from her new book of poetry — it’s been called “…The Vagina Monologues from an Inuit perspective“.
Very excited for both scenarios.
