Couple weeks ago these cats Purity Ring dropped this album Shrines and shit sounded like the Best of Both Worlds album that should never exist from Portishead and Salem. Basically, the joint is pretty and really catchy in a dreamy way, with a tiny voiced woman singing. It’s got a lil bit of teeth to it too as the synths sometime verge into the realm of meth head nightmare music. It’s hot in a way thats twee, goth, emotional, and sexy all at the same time. Shrines could easily be the soundtrack to sex with any season one Suicide Girl.
Here, we have Heath Caring‘s screw version of the album—titled Purity Shrines— which takes the whole shit into a much, weirder and darker place. The original joint sounded like lil pixies flying around in a forest singing you songs in a Miyazaki movie, the screw version sounds like the part where the bad guy gets eaten by the brolic forest spirits on some nature strikes back shit. I dare you to fuck with this shit while you in the woods by yourself. Check for appearances by a succubus sounding Bjork, Pusha-T on some remorseful evil wizard shit, and Nacho Picasso as the impish spirit of fertility. Also, look towards the end for a drop from what sounds like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which cements my theory this whole shit is about the evil of the forest, because everyone knows aliens are our collective materialized fears of nature’s reckoning.
Actually, I’m thinking of Bigfoot, same shit.
